As Leicester City continue the journey at the top of the premier league, it’s fascinating to see how the manager, Claudio Ranieri, handles the situation.
When you look at some of the other teams who have won the league, like Chelsea, their manager Jose Mourhino, called himself the special one, at Manchester, it seemed like it was all about the powers and skills of Alex Ferguson, both of them great managers.
But with Ranieri, he shuns the spotlight; he leaves the stage to his players. He makes it all about them, rather than about him, and you can see the reaction and impact that thesis his players.
Leadership is all about the team, not the leader; this is the way to get the best out of people to get them to exceed their capabilities. It also fosters better teamwork, and no one becomes more important than the team.
With great teamwork it allows the team to be more than the sum of it’s part, it gives it great character, great spirit with players playing for each other rather than for themselves.
We saw this season how Chelsea imploded after they had won the league, because it was al about their manager, and then this season they refused to play for him.
It’s great when players will play hard for the manager, but it’s even better when they will play hard for each other. This is when the magic really happens and teams really start to excel.
There are only 7 games remaining and Leicester lead by 5 points, if they continue to play the way they are I am sure that they will win the title, they have a team spirit and bond that many of the other teams, more skilful teams don’t have, and this can see them through and take the ultimate prize in English soccer.
Teamwork makes the dream work, but it starts wit the manager putting the team ahead of himself.
