Random Acts of Kindness

Today I was training for the Rome marathon, and my goal for the run was to complete my first half marathon for just over 1 year, so it was a major training milestone for me.

The run was going well, but at the 2o km stage I felt a slight twinge in my knee. Now given that knees are quite important in any form of running I decided to stop, check it out, give it a little bit of a stretch and a rub.

Fortunately, there was a cafe with some outdoor seating so I top the opportunity to take the weight off my knee and give it a little bit of a massage.

As I sat there, one of the customers who was sat inside came out and asked me if I was ok. I said yes sure, I’m just protecting my knee, I just have one more Km to go to complete my half marathon, but I don’t want to blow my knee doing it.

He then said “do you want to have a warm drink or something”, I said, “no thanks I’m good”.

Then he said “Look if you don’t have any money on you, I am more than happy to buy you a tea or coffee”.

I was so touched by this random act of kindness, I had never met this person before, yet here he was offering to buy me a coffee.

I thanked him profusely for the offer and feeling inspired, I got up and continued to complete the final kilometer and complete my goal.

As I ran all I could think about was how a random act of kindness had made me feel, the generosity of spirit, and it truly raised my faith in humanity.

Random acts of kindness are so powerful, they not only help people who may be in need but they bring a smile, they raise the spirits.

If we could all do at least one random act of kindness, whether it be to a stranger, someone we know, or maybe even someone who works with us, imagine how much better we could make the world feel.

We have a lot of division and divisiveness going on at the moment, and I truly believe that something like this could start to help heal the rift.

So I ask you to think about it, and if you see an opportunity go for it, it doesn’t have to cost money, it might be helping someone with a task, a chore or a problem. Start the ball rolling and you never know, you might need some help you too might get it from someone offering random acts of kindness.
