The Leader: The Best Kind of Team Member

One of the biggest mistakes we make as a leader is that sometimes, without thinking, that we believe ourselves to be separate from the pack. You may find teams are so fragmented you believe yourself to be the glue. After all, when there is one team working on the marketing strategy and another generating ideas, it is almost impossible to feel a part of one component or another. However, a great team leader is a great team player. So what does it take to be a better team player when you are also a leader?

You Value Anybody’s Input

Being a leader is the person that takes the responsibility, but you need to remember that you are working with them. And they are working with you, not for you. The difference between you and them is that you are the one that’s taking the blame if something goes wrong. This is why if you are working with people, you need to make the most out of them, by guiding them. Their input is always valuable, and while you may have the final decision, you must remember that in order to get the outcome you want, they have to give their input. If there is a debate that a HubSpot agency would be an invaluable addition to the strategies of the process, you have to be aware of the budget, but you still need to give them their ability to pitch it perfectly. One big mistake leaders make is not valuing other people’s input because of their status. This is the quickest way for you to turn everyone against you. 

Encouraging Everyone

You always need to encourage individuals. You are a person that works with your team. You need to decide what you want. For example, you may want more respect, which means separating yourself from everyone else. However, this will not likely get you the results you need. Encouraging everyone in the right way, and individual to their personality and temperament is a fine art. Being encouraging is a way to help someone to do their job better, that makes the team the best they can be. 

Know Your Team 

You are playing a game of chess. An effective leader will know the strengths and weaknesses of each individual, so you can put the pieces in the right formation. But this means that you have to work hard to make sure that the team is working hard. This could mean that you will have to work harder than them. But in order to do this, you’ve got to be a great teacher. Lead by example, while also asking for input, so they are more trusting in your abilities, but they will also ask for your help when they need it. 

Being a leader is about someone that works with their team. Many people love being in charge and thrive on being a boss. But being an effective leader is something different entirely. Being a great leader is about being the best kind of team member.
