Use the Force Luke!

the force

As a youngster Star Wars was always my favorite film, I always liked the idea of the Force, a strange and mystical energy field that surrounds us and guides us.

As I have gotten older, Star Wars has remained one of my all time favorite films, but now when I think of the Force, I think of it as my intuition.

That little voice inside of me, that tries to guide me and help me through the tough decisions.

What is intuition?

Well, according to the dictionary intuition is…

  1. The ability to understand something immediately, without the need for conscious reasoning.
  2. A thing that one knows or considers likely from instinctive feeling rather than conscious reasoning.

To me intuition is a balanced view from the head and the heart.

Why do I say that, because sometimes, our hearts overrule our heads, as our hearts actually know better, in this instance. For example, we may give decide to something away we know that we will need later, but feel the other person will have much more need of it, right now.

At other times our heads will over rule our hearts, for example in times when we dearly want something to happen, but in reality we know its not possible.

We often get this in sports where we have an undying love and support for our team, we desperately want them to win even though we know they have little to no chance victory. But we are not crazy enough to wager money on it. That’s our head taking over from our hearts.

We need to learn to listen to and trust this little voice inside us, it is often correct, and it fully supports us and has our best interests at heart.

It will never tell us we can’t do something, but it might tell us we shouldn’t do it.

Some people call it their gut instinct.

It’s that feeling that we just can’t put our finger on, but we know deep down inside that the direction its telling us to go in, is the correct one.

Not all the decisions I have made using my gut instinct have been correct, but I have never regretted making them, I went with my feelings, with what I thought and felt at the time was the best decision.

More often than not, if I go against my instincts that is when I get to regret the decision.

In 2013, I plan to be more like Luke, trusting my feelings and using the Force.
