When faced with two equally-qualified candidates, how do you determine whom to hire?
It’s simple to answer; attitude is everything. Even if someone is less qualified, I will always choose them if they have the best attitude. People with the right attitude can be given the appropriate training and experience.
There are no restrictions on what your team can accomplish if they have the right attitude.
If you get the person with the wrong attitude, then there is very little you can do to change that attitude.
I like to understand people’s aspirations too, if I have someone whose aspirations are aligned with what we are trying to do, and they have the right ‘core values’, then this can be a great recruit.
If people are both equal in terms of qualifications and attitude, then I would look at diversity, and look to bring another perspective into the team.
